At Coggin Youth, our mission is for students and adult leaders to pursue God in a passionate love relationship and to lead seeking students toward an authentic and growing relationship with Jesus.
Who We Are
Coggin Youth is apart of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, located in Brownwood, TX.
Coggin Youth has been under the leadership of Ricky Cavitt since 1989. The vision for this ministry has always been, and still is today, to reach and disciple every student who walks through our doors into a personal relationship with Christ. We want to help each of them build their faith on a strong foundation and to prepare them to go out and reach other students.
At Coggin, we seek to reach and evangelize students who have no relationship with God, disciple those who do have a relationship with God, lead students to worship the Lord, serve others, and fellowship with one another.
We recruit adults and college students who are growing in their faith to come join us in the mission of discipling students. With their help, we have small groups where real and tough questions can be asked and where each student has a chance to engage. Our young adults help us do so much more in the lives of students than we could ever do on our own.
What we Believe
We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each person of the Godhead is co-existent, co-equal, and co-eternal. One God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the foundation of Christian faith and practice.
We believe in the full humanity and deity of Christ; His virgin birth; His sinless life; His miracles; His vicarious and atoning death; His resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of the Father; His personal return to earth in power and glory.
About The Holy Spirit
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whom Christians are indwelled and enabled to live a godly life.
About The Bible
We believe that the Bible is God's infallible and inerrant word to us concerning Himself. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.
We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of the human nature, and that all are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ, and that only by God's grace through faith alone are we saved.
We believe that humans are created in the Image of God and in that every human, regardless of gender, age, race, or social status, has intrinsic value that can not be taken away. That image has been broken by sin. Jesus is restoring people to the good, right, and unbroken Image of God.
About Youth Ministry
We believe that youth ministry is a tool for the Church to encourage and serve families, serve students in their specific needs, build up the next generation to love God and others, and help them walk in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Where we are headed
This has certainly been a different year considering the pandemic, but we are still committed to discipling students through personal relationships. We are meeting in person and plan to continue to do so until wisdom says otherwise. Whatever happens in 2021, we will be faithful to serve and guide students in their walk with Christ and others, whatever that may look like.
We not only want students to serve their current communities, families, schools, and be disciples who make disciples, but we want to see students who's faith grows beyond their middle school and high school years.
We hope that when a student graduates and leaves our ministry that they will be equipped to go out into the world, stand on their own faith, actively grow in their walk with God, find new biblical community, and disciple others into a deeper relationship with God.
